A lot of fake polls are on the rise during this electioneering time, social networking sites awash with fabricated graphics misleading consumers. One such is a fabricated poll purported predict Nairobi gubernatorial prospects.
Fabricated images, professionally patched on to NTV Kenya branding, placed Johnson Sakaja ahead in the Nairobi gubernatorial race by 71% with Polycarp Igathe coming second by 15% support. Both Sakaja & Igathe are Nairobi’s gubernatorial race frontrunners.
NTV Kenya has since dismissed the post on their official Twitter and Facebook pages and indicating that such poll did not originate from them. Readers were also cautioned to be aware of such fake news.
INTENT
Supporters have taken it up upon themselves as a way to reassure other voters of a likely outcome of the race, to either surrender or accept the obvious outcome. This news is then circulated widely all over social media via parody accounts.
Content consumers should be wary of such and if suspicious, should seek to investigate via official platforms including the pollsters that conduct their studies scientifically. If proven false, consumers should stop sharing such content immediately and report them.
