A poster circulated on the internet purporting that Nation Media Group is set to lay off big number of its staff. The document announce that NMG would lay off 600 workers. The memo also provided reasons for the decision and detailed the compensation that would be given to those affected. This report spread across the internet and caused concern and frustration, resulting in a significant reaction from Kenyans.
NMG, through their social media accounts has since dismissed the allegations stating that that the circular is FAKE.
Biting economical times in Kenya has left several companies and organizations downsize their workforce, media companies have even been hit hard even as government, who is main advertiser has since cuts down advertisements. Online platforms are now grabbing huge junk of advertisements and dissemination of information, as well as entertainment. Such developments have since suffocated the traditional media.
